One of Blanket’s standout benefits for house insurance is the replacement cover for non-natural disasters, eg. a house fire. Instead of capping the rebuild value at the sum insured on the schedule, you are eligible for a benefit to have your house rebuilt to the standard that it was regardless of the cost, even if it exceeds your sum insured on your policy.
You are able to obtain an insurance valuation report or quantity surveyor report from an independent company. Another tool you can use is the Cordell Sum Insured Calculator that uses market research to provide an estimated building cost. Note that you are responsible for deciding if the amount the calculator gives you is an accurate estimate.
If you list a property as a rental property you do need to ensure that you have a tenancy agreement in place and are meeting the landlord obligations in the policy wordings, eg. keeping records of your 3-monthly property inspections (see policy wordings for full details).
